WHAT IS JOBS FOR CINCINNATI GRADUTES?
- Jobs for Cincinnati Graduates (JCG) is a non-profit organization, created in 1982 by the Cincinnati Business Community.
- JCG provides comprehensive school-to-career job readiness programs for high school students with barriers to success.
- Our vision is to lead every JCG student to graduation, a successful career, and life-long learning.
WHO ARE JCG STUDENTS?
- They are youth identified by their school as likely to dropout, and needing additional support to make a successful transition from high school to adulthood.
- Or, they are youth who have dropped out of high school and want to re-enter the educational system through non-traditional educational programs.
HOW ARE YOUTH ELIGIBLE FOR THE JCG PROGRAM?
- Youth must be between the ages of 14 and 21, and face barriers to success. They must attend one of the JCG partner schools or be a high school dropout.
- Barriers include: low income, failing a prior grade, failing to pass Ohio Graduation Test, absenteeism and/or suspensions, single parent family, low income family, prior court involvement due to neglect/abuse or delinquency, pregnancy, or being a teen parent.
- A student must have three barriers to be accepted into a JCG program.
- Our 2006-07 Education Partners include: Aiken College and Career, Heritage Community School, Entrepreneurship High School, Life Skills Center North, Life Skills Center South, Norwood, Olyer On-Line Plus, Princeton, Purcell Marian, Western Hills Design Technology, Winton Woods, and Woodward Career Technical.
WHAT DOES JCG DO FOR ITS STUDENTS?
- JCG provides students with basic life skills, job attainment skills, and job maintenance skills.
- JCG helps students identify skills, interests and achievable career plans by using job shadowing, internet research, part-time jobs, community service projects, skills competitions, and service learning.
- JCG assists students with the Ohio Graduation Test, tutoring and developing plans to ensure sufficient credits to graduate.
- JCG follows each student for one year after graduation to assist in overcoming any barriers that might impede their continued success.
HOW MANY STUDENTS DOES JCG SERVE ANNUALLY?
- JCG provides programming to over 550 youth each year and follow-up services to 300 High School graduates.
HOW DOES JCG BENEFIT THE COMMUNITY?
- By increasing the High School graduation rate;
- By preparing High School students to enter the workforce,
- By preparing youth to become productive members of our community,
- By decreasing juvenile crime and delinquency, and
- By increasing the number of people working and contributing to society.
HOW IS JCG ADMINISTERED AND FUNDED?
- JCG Career Specialists are assigned to partner schools in Cincinnati and Hamilton County.
- Management staff administers JCG from our office in Roselawn.
- JCG Projected Annual Operating Budget is $1.5M in FY2006-07.
- JCG is funded by the State of Ohio, Workforce Investment Act (WIA) contracts, schools and through the generosity of local foundations, corporations and individuals.
- JCG is affiliated with Jobs for Ohio Graduates (JOG) and Jobs for Americas Graduates (JAG).
JCG 2006-07 PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES
- 93% Of our youth graduated with their class or obtained the GED during the follow-up period, and
- 90% of our youth achieved and maintained a plan of employment and/or post-secondary training or college.
JCG 2005-06 PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES
- 95% of JCG youth either graduated with their class or achieved their GED during the follow up period.
- 91% maintained employment and/or a further education or training plan.
